Dad brought 3 bags of homemade compost over at Thanksgiving!

Best thing ever.

I planted lettuce and garlic in it, and they are going to be VERY happy!

This year, I wanted to capture those feelings, then build on them each year. I wanted to watch our lives change over time.

I had an idea during the 3:00 pm Thanksgiving slow down (you know, when there is stuff in the oven, but it’s not time to start the stovetop foods yet) to make a garland of memories!

Mom cut out flags (she is a lot more patient than I am when it comes to triangles). Everyone wrote down something (or things) that they were feeling thankful for. It took about 2 minutes to sew them on to a ribbon, and then we hung it up by over the dinner table. We used pushpins in the dining room, but looping the ribbon over baby pumpkins on the mantle worked equally well.

I left a long tail of ribbon so we can add to it year after year, or you could tie extra ribbon on each year.

This year, I am especially thankful for my family who are such good sports about putting up with my endless craftiness. xoxo.

Today was happy and sad. Happy for my husband’s birthday party brunch, and for my friends who are moving somewhere awesome to start a happy new life together! Sad because that happy new life is starting about 300 miles away from here, which is a lot father than our usual one-block-away walk over for dinner in your slippers lifestyle.

I was feeling blue this afternoon after the goodbyes. So, I decided to garden rather than sulk. It was amazing out there today!

I saw a rainbow (look closely, it’s a double rainbow!)

I stayed out there for hours! I weeded the whole darn thing and planted the winter veggies. I haven’t done this much for the garden in the last six months!

It rained but it was so pretty out, I still didn’t go inside. Besides, I was bundled up – sweater tights and all.

Good news: I’m feeling better… and tired.

Other happy thought: The sky looks the same here, and 300 miles away.

Also, there is a handsome man in my garden. And he’s weeding. (bigger smile).

Tonight there was a tiny, but delicious harvest.

Good news: Even counting the dog issue, it was not a bad harvest for the day. Not at all.

First peaches ever. Yay!

Oatmeal is almost ready. Brown sugar, almonds, vanilla soy milk and honey are in the table.

Oh, and there’s maple bourbon molasses blackberry sauce on the stove.
